Those interested in digital media will find an undergraduate degree at the University of Detroit at Mercy and this school also coordinates with the Specs Howard School of Broadcasting to give students hands-on training. Additional practical education can be found at Lawrence Technogical University in the form of an associates degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting, or at Wayne County Community College in the form of a Radio/TV Certificate.
Job growth rates for the camera operator and film/video editor sectors are well above the Detroit-area average at 13% and 20% respectively. However, to put this in perspective, camera operators for the television, video and motion picture industries are expected to see only 20 new jobs created between 2002 and 2012, for a total of 220 positions, whereas film and video editors will move up from 670 to 810 positions during this same decade. (It should be noted that all of these figured exclude part-time and freelance work opportunities). A/V equipment technicians, in the meantime, are expected to hold a total of 940 full-time positions by 2012, up from 770 in 2002.

Why Detroit is a Great Place to Study Film & Video
As a recording venue for everything from the works of well-known documentarian Michael Moore (including Roger & Me and Bowling for Columbine) to mainstream fare such as Beverly Hills Cop, Presumed Innocent, and Grosse Pointe Blank, Detroit is no stranger to the art of filmmaking. In its efforts to maintain economic viability through the decline of the automobile industry (that being the driving force that basically brought Detroit into the world), this city has embraced the movie industry as a part of its expansion into areas of the work world that will keep it healthy and thriving into the future.
